Traditional Goes Innovative
Pulling, drawing and cutting the threads of the fabric creates unique surface textures. Adding to the excitement of creating, students will replace the fine handwork with acrylic paints and melting tools - the results are unlimited and can be fabulously unexpected! Going further these traditional techniques will cross over into a variety of fabrics including felt. Be prepared to have even more fun experiencing non-traditional fabric manipulation with unique techniques designs in day two.
Workshop Options
One Day Workshop
The theme of this day will be to explore pulling, drawing and cutting out threads. Students will play with their sewing machine as they pull the warp and weft of fabric and then go from pulling out threads in a design to fraying fabric to create transparency. Students will replace scissors with a heat tool and melt or burn out ‘cutout’ sections of the fabric in impressive designs.
Two Day Workshop
Layering and transparent & tucked will be added to the excitement of day two. Again any and all fabrics, in particular sheers, will be used and melted. Students will get the opportunity to start a small design of their own using some or all of the techniques introduced or they can simply keep playing.
