Using the Element of Design - Line

The Design Element - Line will be the focus of this three day workshop. Students will take away an understanding of how line affects
their design as they go through the process of creating an abstract line design based on a picture of their choice. After completing the process of going from a traditional picture to a contemporary design - students will create a fibre art piece using their design. From there, students will bring in any surface designing techniques they are comfortable with. Their masterpiece will be just the first of
many using their new design.

Workshop Options

Three Day Workshop Option Only

Day One:

Christina will go over how line/s affects your design, setting the stage for you to make decisions as you explore your initial
reference picture. From there, you will draw out your own design and go through the fun and exciting process of creating a few abstract designs by drawing, doodling, slicing and colouring.  No machine work will happen on this day

Day Two:

Most likely you will still be creating your final touches on your contemporary design. You will then decide on your colour choice to
prepare you to recreate in fabric. By the end of day two you should expect to be on your way to creating your fibre art piece. If time allows, Christina will offer some tips and mini demos on applicable surface design techniques that would work well for everyone.

Day Three:

Your masterpiece should be well on its way to completion by lunch. You will have the full day to finish. Time permitting, Christina will
go over some great ways to finish your masterpiece without using binding.
